Woodford Reserve Kentucky Straight Rye Whiskey 700mL

Woodford Reserve Kentucky Straight Rye Whiskey is the rye expression of the Woodford Reserve range, built on a high-rye mash bill and made at Brown-Forman's historic Glenn's Creek distillery in Kentucky. It is a straightforward, spice-forward rye that works as well in a cocktail as it does neat.

Woodford Reserve is made at the Labrot & Graham distillery on Glenn's Creek in Woodford County, Kentucky, where Elijah Pepper began distilling in 1812 and where James Crow later did much of the work that shaped modern bourbon practice. Brown-Forman bought the derelict site in 1993 and reopened it in 1996 with three copper pot stills made in Scotland - still an unusual set-up in Kentucky, where column stills are the norm. The Rye joined the core range in 2015 on a mash bill of 53% rye, 33% corn and 14% malted barley, bottled at 45.2% ABV.

Tasting Profile

• Nose: Rye spice and mint over dried fruit, with a light floral note.
• Palate: Peppery and dry, with cinnamon, clove and a soft marzipan sweetness underneath the grain spice.
• Finish: Long and spicy, drying out the way a high-rye mash bill should.

Best For

Rye cocktails where the spine needs to show through - Manhattans, Sazeracs, Old Fashioneds - and for bourbon drinkers who want to taste what the rye grain does on its own. Neat or with a drop of water works for tasting.
