Maker's Mark 46 750mL

Maker's Mark 46 is the first major new expression released by the Maker's Mark distillery since the original bourbon launched in 1958. It is the recipe of Bill Samuels Jr., son of founders Bill and Margie Samuels, and adds depth and complexity to the Maker's Mark house style.

Maker's Mark's origins go back to 1953, when T. William "Bill" Samuels Sr. purchased the Burks' Distillery in Loretto, Kentucky for $35,000. Production began in 1954 and the first run was bottled in 1958 under the brand's now-iconic hand-dipped red wax seal. The Samuels family built Maker's Mark around soft red winter wheat in place of rye in the mashbill, the source of the bourbon's signature front-of-palate sweetness. Today Maker's Mark is owned by Suntory Global Spirits. Every barrel is rotated by hand and the whisky is aged to taste, not by time, in solar-powered warehouses, and every bottle is still hand-dipped in the signature red wax at the Loretto distillery on Star Hill Farm. The distillery was listed on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places in 1974 and designated a National Historic Landmark in 1980 as Burks' Distillery.

Tasting Profile

Maker's Mark 46 is aged longer than the standard Maker's Mark and finished with ten special seared French oak staves inserted into the barrel, imparting additional depth and complexity. Official tasting notes describe toasty French oak, caramel and baking spices on the nose; mildly sweet and layered vanilla and baking spice on the palate; a velvety, subtle and pleasingly long finish. Bottled at 94 proof (47% ABV).
