The Macallan 52 Year Old 2018 is a remarkable aged Speyside single malt, balancing The Macallan's signature sherried depth with the elegance and rarity expected from a half-century-old release.
From the Producer
The Macallan is a Speyside single malt distillery founded in 1824 by Alexander Reid on the Easter Elchies estate near Craigellachie, and its water source is the River Spey. The distillery built its reputation on sherry-seasoned European oak casks from Jerez, a policy consolidated by the launch of the Fine & Rare vintage series in 2002. The 52 Year Old 2018 was drawn from a small parcel of refill sherry-seasoned oak casks laid down in the mid-1960s and bottled at 48% ABV in a hand-blown crystal decanter presented in a presentation case. It was released alongside the 50 Year Old as part of The Macallan's prestige anniversary tier and is offered through The Macallan's worldwide allocation system to specialist retailers and private clients.
Tasting Profile
Sherry-soaked fruit, dark caramel, mature oak, dried citrus and gentle spice on the nose. Layered dried fruits, toffee, oak tannin, warm spice and refined sweetness on the palate. Long, polished and balanced on the finish with lingering oak, fruit cake and dark caramel.
