The Macallan is a Speyside single malt distillery founded in 1824 by Alexander Reid on the Easter Elchies estate near Craigellachie, and its water source is the River Spey. The distillery built its reputation on sherry-seasoned European oak casks from Jerez, a policy consolidated by the launch of the Fine & Rare vintage series in 2002. Silver Seal was an Italian independent bottler founded by Massimo Mannoni in 1980, best known for sourcing rare single-cask and single-distillery Scotch and bottling it in limited decanters for the collector market. Silver Seal's releases paired Macallan spirit with Italian crystal decanters, and this bottling is one of those collaborations. The 33 Year Old was distilled at Macallan in 1977 and bottled by Silver Seal in a Baccarat "Rhone" crystal decanter, a format Baccarat produced from the 1960s onward to mark the Maison's mastery of hand-cut crystal.

Tasting Profile

Dried fig, orange zest, old oak, baking spice and sherried malt richness on the nose. Full and mature on the palate with raisin, cocoa, polished wood and Speyside weight. Long, warming and elegant on the finish with spice, dried fruit and oak.
