Distilled in 1977 and bottled after 33 years' maturation in sherry-seasoned oak at The Macallan's Speyside home, this release predates the distillery's 2004 introduction of multi-cask styles, so the spirit was matured in the traditional single-style sherry oak Macallan is best known for. Presenting ultra-aged whisky in fine French crystal - sourced here from Baccarat, the Paris crystal house founded in 1764 - follows a path Macallan itself pursued more formally from 2005 onward with its Six Pillars Collection of Lalique-bottled 50-to-65-year-old releases, underlining how closely the world's oldest single malts and Europe's grandest crystal houses have been paired.
