Macallan 30 Year Single Cask Mizunara Finish 1988 700mL is an exceptionally limited independent-style Macallan release, bottled by the East Asia Whisky Company. Distilled at The Macallan in 1988, the whisky was matured for approximately 30 years before receiving a rare mizunara oak finish.
From the Producer
The Macallan distillery was founded in 1824 by Alexander Reid at Easter Elchies on the banks of the River Spey in Speyside, Scotland, and has been part of the Edrington Group since 1999. Mizunara is the Japanese oak (Quercus mongolica) long used in Japanese whisky-making and prized for its fragrant, sandalwood-like character. A mizunara finish on mature Speyside malt is a rare independent-style treatment, and the East Asia Whisky Company is a specialist independent bottler known for single-cask Japanese and Scotch releases of this kind.
Tasting Notes
Appearance — deep amber, the colour of long cask maturation with a finish in rare Japanese oak.
Nose — dried fruit, vanilla, sandalwood, incense, citrus peel and polished oak.
Palate — layered and mature, with raisin, honey, spice, malt richness and fragrant mizunara oak accents.
Finish — long and aromatic, with lingering oak, spice, citrus and dried fruit.
Best For
Macallan collectors, mizunara enthusiasts and ultra-limited Scotch whisky portfolios focused on independent single-cask releases.
