Macallan 18 Year Sherry Oak 1979 750mL is a vintage-dated Macallan release from the distillery’s classic sherry-led era, distilled in 1979 and bottled in 750mL format. The older 750mL format and 1979 vintage add collector appeal alongside the more modern 700mL European bottlings.

The Macallan distillery was founded in 1824 by Alexander Reid at Easter Elchies on the banks of the River Spey in Speyside, Scotland, and has been part of the Edrington Group since 1999. The Macallan’s identity was built around long sherry-seasoned oak maturation, with casks sourced from bodegas in Jerez, Spain. The Sherry Oak 18 Year Old sits in the heart of that classic range, bottled at 43% ABV in the older 750mL format before the distillery adopted the 700mL European standard.
Tasting Notes
Appearance — deep amber with copper highlights, the colour of long sherry-oak contact.
Nose — raisin, orange peel, dark chocolate, polished oak, cinnamon and old sherry.
Palate — rich and rounded, with dried fruit, toffee, malt sweetness, cocoa and seasoned oak spice.
Finish — long and warming, with fruitcake, sweet spice and mature oak.
