Macallan 18 Year Sherry Oak 1976 700mL is a vintage-dated Macallan from the classic sherry-cask era of the distillery, distilled in 1976 and bottled in 1994 after 18 years of sherry-oak maturation. The 700mL format and 1976 vintage add collector and birth-year appeal.
From the Producer
The Macallan distillery was founded in 1824 by Alexander Reid at Easter Elchies on the banks of the River Spey in Speyside, Scotland, and has been part of the Edrington Group since 1999. The Macallan’s reputation for long sherry-cask maturation was built during the 1980s and 1990s as the distillery expanded its sourcing of sherry-seasoned oak casks from bodegas in Jerez. The Sherry Oak 18 Year Old sits in the heart of that classic range, presented at 43% ABV in the 700mL format that became the European standard.
Tasting Notes
Appearance — deep amber with copper highlights, the colour of mature sherry-cask malt.
Nose — raisin, plum, cinnamon, old oak, orange peel and polished sherry.
Palate — creamy and mature, with dried fruit, fruit cake, spice, toffee and European oak depth.
Finish — long and warming, with dark fruit, spice and old oak.
Best For
Vintage Macallan collectors, 1976 birth-year gifts and classic sherry-matured Scotch tastings focused on older Macallan vintages.
