From the Producer
The Macallan distillery was founded in 1824 by Alexander Reid at Easter Elchies on the banks of the River Spey in Speyside, Scotland, and has been part of the Edrington Group since 1999. From the mid-1980s onward The Macallan built its identity around long sherry-seasoned oak maturation, sourcing casks from bodegas in Jerez, Spain. The Sherry Oak 18 Year Old sits in the heart of that classic range, bottled at 43% ABV in the older 750mL format before the distillery adopted the 700mL European standard.
Tasting Notes
Appearance — deep amber with mahogany highlights, the colour of long sherry-oak contact.
Nose — dried fruits, raisins, citrus peel, toffee, oak and warm spice.
Palate — mellow and rich, with fruit cake, caramel, sherry sweetness, spice and mature oak.
Finish — long, smooth and warming, with dried fruit and oak spice.
