About This Whisky
This bottle belongs to the first decade of the 18 Year Old, when each release named its distillation year. The spirit was distilled in 1975, matured 18 years in sherry oak casks and bottled in 1993. The 750mL presentation carried an importer's label for the US market, and the strength is the standard 43%. As with all Sherry Oak Macallan, the colour comes from the cask alone.
Tasting Profile
- Nose: Dried fig, raisin and citrus peel over toffee, sweet spice and old oak.
- Palate: Mellow and rounded, with fruit cake, caramel, a thread of ginger and gentle sherry sweetness.
- Finish: Smooth and lasting, with dried fruit and warm oak spice.
Serving & Food
Keep it at cellar or room temperature and pour into a tulip glass. It takes a drop of water well if the oak feels firm. Good partners are Peking duck, a wedge of aged Gouda, or dark chocolate with sea salt.

About the Distillery
For much of the twentieth century The Macallan made whisky that other people bottled. Merchants such as Campbell, Hope & King held bottling rights, and most of the spirit went into blends. In 1980 the distillery brought bottling back in-house and began building its own single malt range, adding 17 and 18 year old expressions to the vintage-dated 15 Year Old it already sold. The 18 Year Old soon became the anchor of that range, and it has been released every year since. That decision turned Macallan from a well-regarded filling malt into a brand in its own right.
