About This Whisky
Gran Reserva was The Macallan's heavily sherried side project of the late 1990s, and the 1979 vintage opened the run.
The vintages ran from 1979 to 1982, all at 40%.
Tasting Profile
- Nose: Dense and dark: stewed raisin, bitter orange marmalade, old leather, polished furniture and a curl of vanilla.
- Palate: Thick and rounded, with prune, dark chocolate, treacle toffee and warming clove and cinnamon from the oak.
- Finish: Long and drying, with sherry, cocoa powder and gently resinous oak.
Serving & Food
Let it settle in a copita before tasting, then serve it beside dark chocolate truffles or Medjool dates.
