The Golden Dragon Collection is Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair's eight-bottle assortment case for Asian markets, easy to spot by its gold capsules in place of the domaine's usual blue. The 2019 case is all red and spans Vosne-Romanée, Flagey-Echézeaux, Vougeot and Nuits-Saint-Georges, led by two bottles of the La Romanée monopole.
About This Collection
The 2019 case holds two La Romanée Grand Cru, one Echézeaux Grand Cru, two Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru, two Vosne-Romanée Premier Cru Aux Reignots and one Nuits-Saint-Georges Premier Cru Clos des Grandes Vignes. A hot season with repeated heatwaves cut yields and gave concentrated, ripe Côte de Nuits reds that kept enough freshness to age. Reignots tends to be the tautest wine here; the two Clos wines are broader.
Tasting Profile
- Nose: Dark cherry, raspberry and violet, flinty in the Reignots, earthier in the Clos de Vougeot.
- Palate: Ripe, concentrated 2019 fruit held in place by good acidity, finest in La Romanée and Reignots.
- Finish: Long and gently spiced on the grand crus, with fine tannins that still want more time in bottle.
Serving & Food
Serve at 15 to 16°C in large Burgundy bowls. Open the Clos des Grandes Vignes and Clos de Vougeot first, from around 2027, and hold La Romanée and Reignots into the 2030s. An hour in a decanter helps. Roast pigeon, duck with cherries or morels in cream all sit well alongside.

About the Domaine
Two of the wines in this case come from outside Vosne village itself. The Echézeaux is a blend of several parcels: about two thirds from Les Cruots and Vignes Blanches on the Vosne side of the appellation, and a third from Champs Traversins on the steeper ground. Clos de Vougeot joined the range with the 2015 vintage. Its grapes are bought under a long-term contract with a certified organic grower, from a mid-slope plot on the Vosne side of the clos that the Liger-Belairs owned until 1933.
