Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair's Golden Dragon Collection 2014 gathers eight bottles from four of the domaine's leading sites, sealed in its numbered original wooden case with gold capsules.
About This Bottling
The case holds two each of La Romanée, Échezeaux and Aux Reignots, with one red and one white Nuits-Saint-Georges Premier Cru Clos des Grandes Vignes. The 2014 production figures show how small these wines are: about 3,290 bottles of La Romanée, 1,825 of Échezeaux, 2,082 of Aux Reignots, 3,520 of the Clos des Grandes Vignes red and only 886 of the white. From 2014 the domaine's bottles also carry NFC-enabled back labels, which help with authentication and tracking.
Tasting Profile
- Nose: Pure red cherry, redcurrant and peony on the reds, with sandalwood in La Romanée; the white shows pear, citrus and chalk.
- Palate: Silky, precise and medium-weight, with lively acidity and fine tannin.
- Finish: Clean and long, with the Grands Crus adding spice and a mineral pull.
Serving & Food
Start with the Clos des Grandes Vignes blanc, lightly chilled, alongside Hokkaido scallop or crab. Pour the reds at 16 to 17°C into large Burgundy glasses; Aux Reignots and the Nuits rouge drink well now, while La Romanée and Échezeaux will reward a few more years. Duck breast and mushroom dishes work across all of them.

About the Domaine
The domaine is run from the Château de Vosne-Romanée, the family home since the Napoleonic general Louis Liger-Belair acquired it in 1815. Its modern form dates from 2000, when Comte Louis-Michel ended a long period of sharecropping and began bottling the family wines himself.
He gives a village wine the same attention as La Romanée: soils are worked rather than sprayed, farming is certified biodynamic, and cellar work is kept simple. In 2015 the domaine marked its bicentenary with a vertical tasting of 68 vintages of La Romanée.
