About This Bottling
The 2013 set contains two La Romanée Grand Cru Monopole, two Échezeaux Grand Cru, two Vosne-Romanée Premier Cru Aux Reignots, and one each of Nuits-Saint-Georges Premier Cru Clos des Grandes Vignes red and white. Aux Reignots rises steeply above La Romanée on soil rarely more than 25 cm deep over limestone, and the domaine notes that young Reignots can show flint and struck-match notes that soften in the cellar. The white comes from a small Chardonnay planting within the Clos.
Tasting Profile
- Nose: Raspberry, redcurrant and rose on the reds, a smoky edge on Aux Reignots, and lemon and hazelnut on the white.
- Palate: Bright and linear, with lively acidity carrying the fruit and a stony grip through the Grands Crus.
- Finish: Fresh and focused, with a saline, mineral end in both colours.
Serving & Food
The white should be drinking well now; serve it at cool cellar temperature in a wide glass. Reds are happiest at 16°C after 30 to 60 minutes in a decanter, with Aux Reignots ready ahead of the two Grands Crus. Try soy-braised pigeon, a veal chop with girolles or a mild washed-rind cheese.

About the Maison
Few Burgundy estates have a history as tangled as this one. General Louis Liger-Belair bought the château in Vosne-Romanée in 1815, and by the time of Comte Edgar the family held more than 60 hectares. After the 1933 auction the surviving vines spent seven decades with sharecroppers, while négociants bottled La Romanée.
Louis-Michel, who studied oenology at Dijon, returned the vines to domaine bottling from 2000. Horses came back into the vineyards in 2002 and biodynamic preparations followed in 2008. The estate has since grown past ten hectares, a mix of family land, long leases and purchases.
