The 2012 Golden Dragon Collection from Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair is the first to include wine from Nuits-Saint-Georges: a red and a white from the Clos des Grandes Vignes monopole, bought that year. They sit alongside the domaine's Vosne-Romanée Grand and Premier Crus in a gold-capsuled wooden case.
About This Bottling
Inside are two bottles each of La Romanée, Échezeaux and Vosne-Romanée Premier Cru Aux Reignots, and one each of Nuits-Saint-Georges Premier Cru Clos des Grandes Vignes red and white. The clos covers about 2.2 hectares in the south of the appellation, mostly Pinot Noir with around a third of a hectare of Chardonnay, and 2012 was the domaine's first vintage of the white. Production of the 2012 case is reported at 188.
Tasting Profile
- Nose: The reds show dark cherry, violet and spice; the white brings citrus peel, white flowers and a stony note.
- Palate: Concentrated reds with fine tannin and good acidity, alongside a textured, fresh Chardonnay.
- Finish: Long in the Grands Crus, with the Nuits red firmer and more savoury.
Serving & Food
Drink the blanc first, at 11 to 13°C in a white Burgundy glass, with steamed garoupa or seared scallops. The reds want 16 to 17°C and some air; Aux Reignots and Échezeaux are opening now, while La Romanée can wait. Roast squab or braised short rib suits them well.

About the Domaine
Comte Louis-Michel Liger-Belair has spent the years since 2000 piecing a family estate back together. The first steps were small: 1.5 hectares of village and Premier Cru vines in 2000, then La Romanée and Aux Reignots in 2002. A lease signed in 2006 added Échezeaux, several Vosne-Romanée Premiers Crus and Nuits-Saint-Georges Aux Cras. In 2012 he bought the walled Clos des Grandes Vignes at Prémeaux.
Most of the effort goes into the vineyard, with ploughed soils and biodynamic methods certified by Ecocert, and he steps in as little as possible once the grapes reach the cellar.
