Domaine Leroy is one of the larger owners in Clos de Vougeot, and its biodynamically farmed, very low-yielding vines give a notably concentrated wine from the Clos. The 2000 is a mature bottle from a vintage that came round early and now drinks with savoury complexity.
About This Wine
Clos de Vougeot is the walled Grand Cru planted by the Cistercian monks of Cîteaux, just over 50 hectares shared between around 80 owners. Domaine Leroy holds about 1.91 hectares, close to 4% of the Clos, in several parcels, and under Lalou Bize-Leroy's low yields it produces a darker, more concentrated wine than most. Across the Côte de Nuits, 2000 is generally remembered as an uneven year with rain near harvest, giving supple, aromatic reds rather than big ones. With more than two decades in bottle, this is now in its mature phase.

Serving & Food
Once the bottle has rested, decant with care and serve at 16°C in a Burgundy bowl. Drink now to around 2030. Serve with roast duck, beef fillet with bordelaise sauce or porcini risotto.

About the Maison
Domaine Leroy is young by Burgundy standards. It was created in 1988, when Lalou Bize-Leroy, already head of the family négociant house Maison Leroy (founded in Auxey-Duresses in 1868), bought the Charles Noëllat estate in Vosne-Romanée and the Philippe-Rémy estate in Gevrey-Chambertin. She was co-director of Domaine de la Romanée-Conti from 1974 to 1992.
Biodynamic farming began from the first vintage, and yields are cut far below the local norm. By 2000 the domaine had a dozen vintages behind it and a firm following among Burgundy collectors. It now covers about 22 hectares, most of it Premier and Grand Cru.
