At roughly 800 hectares, Pomerol is the smallest of Bordeaux's wine-producing areas and, unlike the Médoc or Saint-Émilion, has no official growth classification; its wines are built on Merlot, typically blended with Cabernet Franc, over the appellation's clay and gravel soils.
