Laphroaig Quarter Cask is the distillery's permanent Islay single malt Scotch whisky expression, double-matured in ex-bourbon barrels and smaller American oak quarter casks. The smaller casks give the spirit more wood contact per litre, adding sweetness and depth on top of Laphroaig's signature medicinal peat.
From the Producer
Laphroaig Distillery was founded in 1815 on Islay's southern coast and is one of the most recognised names in peated Scotch whisky. The distillery was the first Islay producer to protect 'the name Laphroaig' as a trademark and remains known for its traditional floor maltings and heavily peated, coastal character. Quarter Cask is the distillery's standing expression that finishes maturation in smaller American oak quarter casks, an approach that amplifies wood interaction and rounds out the peat with extra vanilla and spice.
Tasting Profile
- Nose: Smouldering peat with aromas of coconut and banana.
- Palate: Deep, complex and smoky, lifted by a surprising gentle sweetness.
- Finish: Very long, drying and appropriately smoky, with spice carrying the close.
Best For
Peat lovers, Islay drinkers and Laphroaig followers who want a step-up from the standard 10 Year with more cask-driven sweetness and intensity.
