About This Whisky
Laphroaig Quarter Cask takes the distillery's peaty spirit and finishes it in small American oak casks, then bottles it at 48% ABV without chill filtration.
Quarter Cask is double matured. The spirit first rests for several years in ex-bourbon barrels, then moves into quarter casks of about 125 litres, around half the size of a hogshead.
Tasting Profile
- Nose: Bonfire smoke with coconut, banana and toffee, then salt spray and a medicinal edge.
- Palate: Creamy and powerful, with vanilla, honeyed malt, tar and smoked seaweed.
- Finish: Drying, with peppery spice and smoke that hangs on.
Serving & Food
It stands up to robust food: barbecued pork ribs, smoked beef brisket, or a smoked cheddar ploughman's.
Good to Know
Why small casks? More oak contact builds vanilla and spice quickly.
Is it chill-filtered? No. It's bottled at 48% without chill filtration.
