Lagavulin distillery was founded in 1816 on the south coast of Islay and has been owned by Diageo since the group's formation. Each year Diageo's Special Releases programme selects a small number of rare, limited-availability expressions from across its portfolio of malt whisky distilleries; the 26 Year Special Release 2021 is Lagavulin's entry in that year's collection, drawing on stock matured well beyond the distillery's standard core-range ages.
