Lagavulin distillery was established in 1816 on the south coast of Islay and is known for an unusually slow distillation through pear-shaped pot stills, producing an intensely peated, maritime single malt that has long been a core component of the White Horse blend. This bottle comes from Diageo's Casks of Distinction programme, the private sale of individually selected rare casks from Diageo's Scotch whisky stocks, each chosen by the company's whisky experts for its singular character. Cask #0002 was distilled in 1997 and released at 20 years old, bottled at cask strength (56.3% ABV) as one of a limited run of individually numbered 70cl bottles.
