Krug Rosé 24ème Édition is composed around the 2012 harvest and blends 22 wines from seven years. Half the blend is reserve wine, and a portion of red Pinot Noir gives it colour, grip and spice.

About This Champagne

The 2012 wines were round and elegant with pastry notes, and it was a strong year for reds. Clos d'Ambonnay was tasted for the blend and selected, and the macerated Pinot Noir came from a special plot in Aÿ, adding deep colour and strawberry and pomegranate notes. Reserves, especially from 2006 and 2008, bring tension. The final blend is 40% Pinot Noir (including 11% macerated red Pinot Noir), 28% Chardonnay and 32% Meunier.

Tasting Profile

  • Nose: Rose hip, redcurrant, mulberry, peony, pink grapefruit, cracked pepper and a savoury hint of cured ham.
  • Palate: Silky and dry, with honey, citrus and dried fruit over a vinous, structured core.
  • Finish: Long, with fine bubbles and a clean, gently spiced close.

Serving & Food

Serve at 11 to 12°C in a wide tulip or Burgundy-style glass so the red fruit and spice show. Drinking well now and for several years to come. Krug likes it with good anchovies; roast pigeon, lamb rack or char siu are just as happy.

How to Enjoy

Savoury dinners with game or roast meats, and anyone curious to try a rosé with real structure.

About the Maison

Krug Rosé dates from 1976, when the fifth generation of the family decided to make a rosé in the house manner. Rather than a pink version of an existing wine, it was a new blend: white base wines for freshness and fruit, finished with Pinot Noir made as red wine by traditional maceration for structure.

Each year since, a new Édition has followed, numbered like Grande Cuvée. Krug even worked with Riedel on a dedicated rosé glass, and it tends to steer Krug Rosé towards savoury dishes rather than desserts.
