Krug Grande Cuvée 163ème Édition is a prestige multi-vintage Champagne built around the 2007 harvest and shaped by Krug's long reserve-wine tradition. Presented with gift box.

From the Producer

Krug was founded in Reims in 1843 by Joseph Krug, a German-born cooper-turned-negociant who believed Champagne should not depend on the vintage alone. Today the house still follows his founding idea: every year, a Grande Cuvée blends more than 120 wines from many different years, kept in oak casks, to recreate a Krug 'taste' beyond any single harvest. Krug owns 268 hectares across the Champagne region — in Reims, the Côte des Blancs and the Montagne de Reims — and farms plots in Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, Avize, Oger, Cramant, Ambonnay, Aÿ and Trépail. The single-vineyard Clos du Mesnil (1.84 hectares, walled since 1698, 100% Chardonnay) and Clos d'Ambonnay (0.68 hectares, walled, Pinot Noir) are bottled separately only in years Krug judges the plot's harvest good enough. The Krug Collection is Krug's late-release programme: selected vintage wines returned to the cellars for extended ageing, re-disgorged and re-dosed closer to release than the standard library. The house ferments in small stainless-steel tanks, ages wines in 205-litre oak casks (Krug is one of the few houses still using wood for élevage), and bottles each plot and year separately before the blending.

Each edition of Krug Grande Cuvée is a blend built around a single base harvest, supplemented by reserve wines from previous years. The 163ème Édition is built around 2007 and, by Krug's published composition, combines 145 wines from 12 different years, with the oldest reserve from 1990. Reported as 37% Pinot Noir, 32% Chardonnay and 31% Meunier.

Tasting Profile

  • Nose: Ripe citrus, dried fruit, flowers, marzipan and gingerbread-like pastry notes.
  • Palate: Layered and expansive, with brioche, candied citrus, nougat, orchard fruit and a fine, persistent mousse.
  • Finish: Long and savoury, with chalky freshness, subtle honeyed richness and lingering toast.

Best For

Luxury gifting, collector cellars and celebratory dinners where a flagship Grande Cuvée matters more than a single vintage label.
