Krug 2000 is the House's expression of the 2000 vintage — nicknamed "Stormy Indulgence" (Gourmandise Orageuse) — a Champagne Krug chose to make despite the climatically chaotic year.

Krug was founded in Reims in 1843 by Joseph Krug, who set out to craft the finest Champagne each year regardless of the climate. Every Krug cuvée is built plot-by-plot, with each base wine vinified separately in small 205-litre old oak barrels, then blended from a library of more than 400 reserve wines. Krug 2000 was made from grapes grown in a tumultuous season — a warm, wet winter followed by a divided growing year — and is composed of 43% Chardonnay, 42% Pinot Noir and 15% Pinot Meunier, drawn from Avize, Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, Trépail and Villers-Marmery for Chardonnay, Ambonnay, Aÿ and Bouzy for Pinot Noir, and Saint-Gemme and Villevenard for Meunier. The House aged it for around twelve years on the lees before disgorgement. Krug labels its vintage releases with descriptive nicknames from its tasting committee — 2000 carries the name "Stormy Indulgence".

Tasting Notes

Nose — Caramel, nougat, hazelnut and freshly baked pastry, with honey, liquorice, menthol, candied orange peel and grapefruit.

Palate — Citrus fruit, baked fruit, brioche and broad, powerful Champagne structure with depth and generosity.

Finish — Very long and persistent, with polish, richness and mature complexity.

Best For

Collector cellars, major celebrations, refined gifting and rich seafood or poultry pairings — Krug itself suggests mi-cuit foie gras or lobster as classic partners.
