Kongsgaard Chardonnay The Judge 2019 is Kongsgaard's flagship Chardonnay from family land in the hills east of Napa, with the winery noting that the vineyard was planted in the 1970s and first released in 1996.

The Judge vineyard sits on a shy-bearing hilltop that founder John Kongsgaard's grandfather originally intended for a stone quarry, and the wine is named for John's father, "The Judge." Kongsgaard describes the site's older vines as yielding barely one ton per acre, giving the wine's characteristic minerality and concentration. The Judge was first released in 1996, the same year the Kongsgaard winery was founded by John and Maggy Kongsgaard.
