Kongsgaard Chardonnay The Judge 2017 is a flagship Napa Valley Chardonnay from one of California's benchmark estates. Market references and critical listings position it as a powerful, layered wine for serious white-wine drinkers and collectors rather than casual weekday Chardonnay.
From the Producer
The Judge is Kongsgaard's flagship single-vineyard Chardonnay, sourced from a shy-bearing hilltop vineyard east of the town of Napa that founder John Kongsgaard's grandfather originally intended for a stone quarry. The vines yield barely one ton per acre, and the wine is named for John's father, "The Judge." Kongsgaard's own vintage notes describe the site's character as showing the vineyard's rocky minerality "before you perceive the fruit."
Tasting Profile
- Nose: Ripe orchard fruit, citrus oil, toast, stone fruit and subtle nutty depth.
- Palate: Broad and layered, with rich fruit, mineral tension, oak framing and powerful texture.
- Finish: Long and persistent, with saline freshness, citrus and savoury length.
Best For
Collector cellars, high-end white-wine pairings and buyers who follow benchmark California Chardonnay rather than entry-level Napa whites.
