Kirin's Fuji Gotemba distillery was established in 1973 at the foot of Mount Fuji, at roughly 620 metres elevation, and is unusual worldwide for handling every stage of both malt and grain whisky production — from mashing to bottling — on one site. The distillery draws pure Mount Fuji snowmelt water filtered through underground streams and runs pot stills of several shapes and sizes for malt spirit alongside multiple grain-still types, aiming for the “Clean & Estery” house style Kirin is known for.
