Batch 6 of Kilkerran Heavily Peated was bottled in April 2022 at a cask strength of 57.4%. Compared with earlier batches it leans a little further towards sherry, with caramel and fruit wrapped around the smoke.
About This Whisky
For this sixth release the cask recipe moved to about 75% ex-bourbon and 25% ex-sherry, a little more sherry than Batch 4. The whisky carries no age statement and has no added colour.
Tasting Profile
- Nose: Toffee and custard, apple pie, rhubarb and cool, smoky peat with a sea-spray edge.
- Palate: Creamy and warming, with caramel, honey, dark chocolate and well-integrated smoke.
- Finish: Medium-long and creamy, ending on toasted oak, spice and gentle peat.
Serving & Food
Serve at cellar temperature in a copita, adding water once you have tasted it neat. Match it with slow-cooked brisket, smoked eel or a sticky toffee pudding.

About the Distillery
Mitchell's Glengyle Ltd is the company that restored this old Campbeltown distillery in the early 2000s, and it shares its roots with J. & A. Mitchell, the family firm that owns Springbank next door. Like Springbank, Glengyle produces spirit at different peating levels. Most Kilkerran is only lightly smoky, while a heavily peated spirit is made in smaller runs for this series. Each batch is a vatting of several casks, bottled at full strength.
