Kavalan is Taiwan's first whisky distillery, founded in 2005 by the King Car Group in Yilan County, north-east Taiwan, and named after the historic Kavalan indigenous people of the region. The subtropical climate accelerates maturation, allowing Kavalan to release fully-matured single malts roughly half a decade after distillation. The Solist range is the distillery's single-cask, cask-strength line, and the Amontillado edition is matured in seasoned Amontillado sherry casks sourced from Spain, giving it a drier, nuttier sherry profile than the Oloroso and PX Solist bottlings.
