Karuizawa Yahiro 37 Year 1971 is a highly collectible Japanese single malt linked to the closed Karuizawa Distillery and presented in a ceramic bottle. Its age, 1971 vintage and limited presentation make it a serious trophy bottle.

From the Producer

Karuizawa distillery was founded in 1955 by Mercian Corporation at Miyota, Nagano Prefecture, and was Japan's smallest whisky distillery until it was mothballed in 2000 and closed in 2011. Its remaining casks were bought up and released as luxury single-cask and specialty bottlings, and distillery-linked whisky from the earliest vintages — including the rare 1971 spirit behind this bottling — is now among the most sought-after and expensive Japanese whisky on the secondary market.

Tasting Profile

  • Nose: Mature dried fruit, old oak, incense, lacquered wood and gentle spice.
  • Palate: Soft but complex, with dark fruit, malt sweetness, aged oak and elegant savoury notes.
  • Finish: Long, delicate and contemplative, with lingering wood spice and dried fruit.

Best For

Karuizawa collectors, Japanese whisky trophy displays and rare-whisky investment cellars.
