From the Producer
Karuizawa was a small Nagano Prefecture distillery that operated from 1955 to 2016 and became a reference name in closed-distillery Japanese single malt. The Four Gardens series was curated by independent bottler Number One Drinks to group four Karuizawa single-cask expressions, each named after a famous Japanese garden. Kairaku-en — after the Mito-period garden in Ibaraki Prefecture — is the 1981 ex-sherry cask #136 in this set, bottled at 55.3% ABV with a reported outturn of 595 bottles, drawn from one of the distillery's classic sherry-cask maturations.
