Karuizawa 35 Year Single Cask #6736 1975 is an ultra-rare Japanese single malt from the closed Karuizawa distillery. It is a sherry butt bottling for Whisky Live Paris 2010.
From the Producer
Karuizawa sat on the slopes of Mount Asama and worked from 1955 until production stopped in 2000; the buildings were dismantled in 2016. It was a tiny operation using imported Golden Promise barley, small direct-fired stills and almost entirely sherry casks - a combination no working distillery reproduces. The surviving casks were bought by the Number One Drinks Company, and every bottling since has come out of that finite pool.
Tasting Profile
- Nose: Dark dried fruit, polished oak, incense, spice, cocoa and lacquered wood.
- Palate: Dense and powerful, with sherry richness, old malt depth and firm oak structure.
- Finish: Very long and warming, with dried fruit, spice and mature wood.
