From the Producer
Karuizawa distillery was founded in 1955 by Mercian Corporation at Miyota, Nagano Prefecture, and was Japan's smallest whisky distillery until it was mothballed in 2000 and closed in 2011. Its remaining casks were bought up and released as single-cask bottlings that are now among the rarest and most valuable whiskies in the world, with the scarcest vintages fetching six-figure sums at auction. Karuizawa's Geisha label series is one of the best-known single-cask ranges drawn from that closed-distillery stock.
