Karuizawa closed in 2000 and its remaining casks passed into the hands of bottlers who released them slowly over the following decade and a half. Because nothing new can ever be made, the releases were often presented as matched pairs or themed sets rather than single bottles, with label artwork that has become part of what collectors buy. The Cherry Tree set pairs a red and a white edition, drawn from the 1999 and 2000 vintages - the distillery's final two working years - in 700mL bottles.
