From the Producer
Kanosuke is run by the Komasa family, whose Kagoshima spirits business began with Komasa Jozo, a shochu producer founded in 1883 in Hioki. Fourth-generation head Yoshitsugu Komasa began developing the whisky programme in 2014, and Kanosuke distillery draws on that 140-year family background in distilling and cask maturation. The distillery sits at Hioki on Kagoshima's Fukiagehama coastline, where wide swings between hot summers and cold winters, together with sea breeze off the beach, are credited by the producer for the mellow, rounded character of its whisky.
