From the Producer
Hanyu Distillery was located in Saitama Prefecture, north of Tokyo, and was operated by the Akuto family across several generations. Production at Hanyu wound down around 2000, and the distillery was formally closed shortly after, but the family retained its cask stock. Ichiro Akuto, the last master distiller at Hanyu and a member of the Akuto family, founded Venture Whisky Ltd. and launched the Ichiro's Malt label to bottle those preserved casks — including long-aged malt and experimental wood programmes such as the Japanese Oak series. Vintage releases like this 23 Year Cask Strength are drawn from the original Hanyu cask stock and bottled at natural strength for collectors of closed-distillery Japanese whisky.
