Les Rugiens is one of the most highly regarded Premier Cru climats of Pommard, a Côte de Beaune commune that, unlike its neighbour Volnay, produces exclusively red wine from Pinot Noir. Domaine Hubert de Montille built its reputation on Pommard and Volnay Premier Crus made in a traditionally structured, age-worthy style rather than for early drinking, and Les Rugiens in particular is prized for the depth and firm backbone the vineyard's iron-rich soils give the wine.
