Highland Park 50 Year 2018 700mL is a 50-year-old single malt Scotch from Highland Park distillery, released as part of the distillery's 2018 ultra-aged programme from Kirkwall on the Orkney Islands. Highland Park is the northernmost single malt Scotch whisky distillery in Scotland.
From the Producer
Highland Park was founded in 1798 by Magnus Eunson on a Kirkwall site previously used for illicit distillation, received its official licence in 1826, and was sold to James Grant & Sons in 1937 before being purchased by The Edrington Group in 1979. According to Highland Park, the whisky is produced using locally cut Orkney peat that carries a higher proportion of heather than many other peats, and is matured predominantly in sherry-seasoned casks of American or European oak sourced from Oloroso sherry producers in Spain. Distillery information confirms Highland Park's 2018 release cycle included the 50 Year Old as a limited expression, and a 54 Year Old was released in February 2023 to mark the distillery's 225th anniversary. Highland Park's 25 Year Old was the first spirit ever to receive a perfect 100-point score at the Ultimate Spirits Challenge.
