About This Whisky
The Kacho Fugetsu 30 uses a 30-faceted crystal decanter with a Japanese landscape rendered on the glass, and special finishing on the Hibiki name and the 30 mark. The blend uses only malt whiskies aged over 30 years with mature grain whisky. The blending is done by hand, from selecting the casks to marrying the final vatting. Output was about 1,000 bottles a year, sold through duty-free shops rather than domestic retailers.
Tasting Profile
- Nose: Dark raisin, sandalwood and old leather, with a soft floral note.
- Palate: Silky and deep, with prune, dark chocolate, mizunara spice and toffee.
- Finish: Very long and elegant, drifting into cedar and dried fruit.
Serving & Food
Serve neat at room temperature in a narrow-rimmed tasting glass; water is unnecessary. Keep food light and slow: a few slices of aged Manchego, hojicha truffles, or walnuts toasted with honey.

About the Distillery
Aged blends depend on choices made decades earlier. When demand for Japanese whisky outgrew supply, Suntory could not stretch its old stocks, and from September 2018 it suspended sales of Hibiki 17. Its explanation was plain: whisky needs years in cask beyond its age statement, and new stills and warehouses take a long time to make a difference.
The same arithmetic governs the 30. An age statement names the youngest whisky in the blend, so every drop here went into cask at least three decades before bottling.
