About This Whisky
The decanter follows the kinuta form, named after the fulling block once used to beat cloth, with a long neck over a cylindrical body. It is coated in a purple-navy glaze and carries an embossed motif reading 'water of life'. Inside is Hibiki 30 Year Old, a blend of Yamazaki malt and grain whiskies aged for at least three decades. This decanter holds 750mL.
Tasting Profile
- Nose: Prune, sultana and roasted chestnut, over leather and beeswax.
- Palate: Deep and rounded, with fig jam, brown sugar, cedar and gingerbread spice.
- Finish: Very long and warming, with cinnamon and the incense of old Japanese oak.
Serving & Food
Save it for a proper occasion. Pour small measures into thin tulip glasses at room temperature and serve neat. Good company: roast duck with plum sauce, aged Parmigiano, or a slice of dark fruit cake.

About the Distillery
Over four centuries Arita developed three broad styles. Ko-Imari pieces use rich underglaze blue with red and gold. The Kakiemon style, traced to Sakaida Kakiemon I and his overglaze enamels of the 1640s, leaves generous white space in the manner of a painting. Nabeshima ware was made at the domain's official kiln as gifts for the shogun and the elite.
Suntory's ceramic bottles began with Arita. The earliest entry in its Special Bottle Collection, from 1992, is an Arita bottle in the Ko-Imari manner, and the partnership later moved beyond the 21 Year Old to Hibiki's older blends.
