Hanyu 14 Year Ghost Series No. 3 cask #1702 is a rare Japanese single malt from the closed Hanyu Distillery. Reported as distilled in 2000, bottled in 2014 and finished in grappa cask, it is aimed squarely at collectors of Ichiro Akuto-era Japanese whisky history
From the Producer
Hanyu was built in Saitama by the Akuto family, who had been making sake since the seventeenth century. The distillery stopped producing in 2000 and was demolished in 2004, and the remaining stock would have been lost had Ichiro Akuto, the founder's grandson, not bought roughly four hundred casks and stored them himself. Those casks became the Card Series and, later, the Ghost Series - the bottlings released after the distillery itself was gone. Ichiro went on to build Chichibu in 2008. This is Ghost Series No. 3, single cask #1702, distilled in 2000 in the distillery's final year, finished in a grappa cask and bottled in 2014 at 14 years old, 59.9% ABV, with a reported outturn of 120 bottles.
