Hampden Estate Overproof Pure Single Jamaican Rum 750mL

About This Rum

Hampden Estate's overproof bottling is its house rum at 60%, drawn from the same long-fermented pot still marks as the 46% version. It is full-flavoured Jamaican rum, with nothing added.

Several Hampden marks, or ester grades, go into the blend.

Tasting Profile

• Nose: Roasted banana and pineapple, clove and nutmeg, candied lemon zest, then barley sugar and butterscotch.
• Palate: Stewed mango and papaya, cinnamon, buttery pastry, liquorice and a wisp of coal smoke.
• Finish: Big spice and tarred oak, easing into butterscotch and mint.

Serving & Food

At 60% it works two ways. With food, think jerk chicken, grilled pineapple or coconut macaroons.

What does Pure Single mean? One distillery and pot stills only.

Is it good in cocktails? Yes. It gives tiki drinks real Jamaican character.

About the Distillery

Sugar planting began on the Hampden estate in Trelawny in 1753, and its high-ester rum is still made the old way. The Hussey family has owned it since Lawrence Hussey bought it in 2009.
