Hakushu Distillery was built in 1973 by House of Suntory in the forests at the foot of Mt. Kaikomagatake, at one of the highest elevations of any malt-whisky site in the world. Water for production is drawn from the surrounding mountains, and the air, forest botanicals and cooler climate shape the distillery’s herbal, minty and gently smoky house character. The 18 Year Old sits above the 12 Year in the Hakushu age range, drawn from longer-aged malt whisky and built to express the distillery’s forest setting at greater depth while keeping the green, herbal lift that defines the brand.
