Hakushu 12 Year Single Malt Whisky 700mL (Old Release) is Suntory’s forest-distillery single malt from the Southern Japanese Alps, presented here in the 700mL format from the older release programme. The 12 Year expression is one of the defining Japanese single malts, valued for its crisp herbal style and gentle smoke.
From the Producer
Hakushu Distillery was built in 1973 by House of Suntory in the forests at the foot of Mt. Kaikomagatake, at one of the highest elevations of any malt-whisky site in the world. Water for production is drawn from the surrounding mountains, and the air, forest botanicals and cooler climate shape the distillery’s herbal, minty and gently smoky house character. The 12 Year Old sits at the heart of the range and is built around malt whiskies aged in American oak, European oak and ex-sherry casks, designed to express the forest setting rather than heavier sherry weight.
Tasting Profile
- Nose: Fresh basil, pine needle and green apple.
- Palate: Clean and lively, with sweet pear, mint and kiwi.
- Finish: Refreshing and lightly smoky, with green tea notes.
Best For
Japanese whisky collectors, elegant gifting and drinkers who like fresher, forest-driven single malts rather than heavier sherry styles.
