Château Grand Village Blanc 2020 is a dry white Bordeaux from the Guinaudeau family's home estate near Fronsac, run by the same family as Château Lafleur in Pomerol. It pairs Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon for a fresh but textured white with more depth than most Bordeaux Blanc.

About This Wine

The 2020 was hand-picked and fermented partly in stainless steel and partly in barrel, with a share of new oak, then aged for several months in wood. 2020 was a warm, dry summer, and the wine combines ripe citrus and stone fruit with a firm line of acidity. It is pleasant young and has the acidity to keep for several years.

• Nose: Grapefruit, lime zest, white flowers and cut grass, with a little apricot
• Palate: Pure and concentrated, with citrus, tangerine peel and orchard fruit on a textured, lightly creamy mid-palate
• Finish: Stony and persistent, with lingering acidity and a cool, minty edge

Serving & Food

Serve at 9 to 11°C in a medium white wine glass. Drink now to about 2028. Lovely with steamed garoupa with ginger and spring onion, grilled prawns, or a fresh goat's cheese salad.

About the Château

Grand Village sits in Mouillac, on the Right Bank just north of Fronsac, and has been the Guinaudeau family home since the 17th century. Jacques and Sylvie Guinaudeau still live there, while their son Baptiste and his wife Julie share the work at Grand Village and Lafleur.

White grapes were grown here long ago but gave way to red. In the 1990s Jacques and Sylvie replanted plots with Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon, sensing the site could make fresh, precise whites, and Baptiste and Julie later added Sauvignon vine cuttings from Sancerre. The family applies the same careful vineyard work used at Lafleur.
