Gordon & MacPhail 44 Year Glenrothes Private Collection 1974 is a mature Speyside single malt bottled under Gordon & MacPhail’s Private Collection series. Distilled in 1974 and bottled after more than four decades, it is a serious collector bottle for buyers who seek long-aged Glenrothes.
From the Producer
Gordon & MacPhail is a family firm in Elgin, founded in 1895, and it is the oldest and largest independent bottler in Scotch whisky. Its method is unusual: rather than buying finished whisky, it buys new-make spirit from distilleries, fills it into casks it has selected and seasoned itself, and matures it in its own warehouses in Elgin for as long as it takes. That is why Gordon & MacPhail is the source of so many of the oldest single malts ever released. The Private Collection is the house's reserve line, used for individual casks of exceptional age that the company judges worth bottling on their own. This one is Glenrothes, distilled on 2 December 1974 into refill sherry puncheon #18440 and bottled on 6 July 2018 after more than forty-three years, with a reported outturn of 276 bottles at 49.5% ABV.
