Glenmorangie bottled this 1974 vintage in 1999 to mark the coming millennium: 2,000 half-litre bottles of Highland malt, described by the distillery as 24 years old. This is bottle no. 122, offered with its original wooden case.
About This Whisky
The commemorative bottling brought together casks laid down in 1974 using malt from the distillery's own floor maltings. It was bottled at 43% ABV in 1999, and packed in a straw-filled wooden box. Just 2,000 bottles of 50cl were filled. Expect an older, spicier Highland style than today's Glenmorangie.
Tasting Profile
- Nose: Hay, beeswax and fruit salad, with a faint wisp of smoke and old oak.
- Palate: Creamy and sweet, with cereal, vanilla, orange peel and soft spice.
- Finish: Long and warm, with malt, light smoke and polished wood.

About the Distillery
Glenmorangie today is a byword for light, unpeated Highland malt, but the distillery used to malt its own barley on site at Tain, and that malt carried more smoke than the barley it buys in now. The floor maltings were decommissioned in 1977, so whiskies distilled in the 1970s are a window onto an older Glenmorangie style.
For the millennium, the team went looking among the oldest casks in the warehouses and settled on this 1974, made from barley malted at Tain. The bottles were signed by the distillery manager of the day, Graham Eunson.
