Karuizawa 35 Year 1979 Cask #8187 700mL is a closed-distillery Japanese single malt from Karuizawa, distilled in 1979 and bottled in July 2014 after 35 years in bourbon cask #8187, at 58.8% ABV.
From the Producer
Karuizawa was a small mountain distillery in Nagano Prefecture, southern Honshu, that operated from 1955 until 2016. It was owned by Mercian Corporation (a Kirin group company) and became famous in the collector market after independent bottler Number One Drinks began releasing single-cask Karuizawa in the late 2000s. Production used small Scottish-made pot stills and local high-altitude water, and every drop was matured on site until the distillery was mothballed. Karuizawa 35 Year Cask #8187 is a single-cask bourbon-maturation release bottled in July 2014 at cask strength, drawing on a parcel of 1979-vintage spirit that helped define the distillery's reputation with Western collectors.
