Jim Beam Black Extra-Aged is the older, richer sibling of the white-label Jim Beam. It spends longer in charred oak than the four-year-old flagship, which shows as deeper caramel and more oak on the palate.
About This Bourbon
The Extra-Aged label carries no age statement; Beam describes it simply as aged longer than the four-year Jim Beam. This version was bottled at 43% ABV (86 proof). In 2024 Beam replaced it in the US with a seven-year-old at 45% ABV, so both labels can be found in the market. This listing is the earlier Extra-Aged label at 43%.
Tasting Profile
- Nose: Charred oak, brown sugar and vanilla, with a nutty, cereal note behind.
- Palate: Round and semi-sweet: caramel, toffee, a little baking spice and light tobacco leaf.
- Finish: Medium-long and drier than the white label, fading on toasted grain and oak.
Serving & Food
Good neat at room temperature, but it earns its keep in an Old Fashioned or a Boulevardier. Serve with glazed pork belly, a Cubano sandwich or a bowl of spiced pecans.

About the Distillery
The Beam family has been making whiskey in Kentucky for seven generations, and the current family link runs through the Noe branch. Booker Noe, grandson of Jim Beam, was master distiller at Clermont for more than four decades, and his son Fred Noe carries the title today.
The company was bought by Suntory of Japan in 2014 and has traded as Suntory Global Spirits since 2024. Production is centred on the Clermont distillery south of Louisville, with water drawn from the limestone shelf that runs under central Kentucky.
