Gentleman Jack is the double-mellowed member of the Jack Daniel's family. The whiskey runs through sugar-maple charcoal before barrelling like every Jack Daniel's, then goes through charcoal a second time after ageing, which gives it a lighter, rounder feel than Old No. 7.
About This Whisky
The grain recipe is the standard Jack Daniel's one, reported as 80% corn, 12% malted barley and 8% rye. After the first charcoal mellowing and a spell in new charred American oak, the matured whiskey is filtered through charcoal again before bottling. That second pass softens the edges and trims some of the heavier barrel notes, so this is a gentler, lighter-bodied pour. It is bottled at 40% ABV (80 proof).
Tasting Profile
- Nose: Soft caramel, vanilla pod and a whisper of banana, with light toasted oak.
- Palate: Silky and gently sweet: brown sugar, baked apple and a little cinnamon, very little heat.
- Finish: Clean and medium in length, closing on butterscotch and faint oak.
Serving & Food
Pour it unchilled into a rocks glass, neat or over one large cube. It also makes a soft Whisky Highball with soda and a lemon twist. Try it with char siu, smoked duck breast or a plate of honey-roasted cashews.
How to Enjoy
Newcomers to American whiskey and anyone who prefers a mellow, low-bite dram after dinner.

About the Distillery
Water is where the Lynchburg story starts. The distillery sits beside Cave Spring Hollow, where a limestone spring runs out of the hillside at a steady 56°F (about 13°C). The limestone strips out iron, which would otherwise darken and roughen whiskey, and Jack Daniel bought the hollow in the 1880s to secure it.
The same water goes into every mash at the distillery, which is still owned by Brown-Forman, and into the Gentleman Jack recipe of corn, rye and malted barley. The distillery describes the spirit as twice distilled before it meets the charcoal.
