Single Barrel Select is Jack Daniel's bottled one barrel at a time, at 47% ABV (94 proof). Each bottle carries its own barrel number, so no two releases taste quite alike.

About This Whisky

Barrels for this bottling are picked by the tasting team and, per the distillery, come from the highest floors of the barrelhouse, where summer heat and winter cold push the whiskey deeper into the wood. Each barrel is bottled on its own rather than married into a batch, and the label records its barrel number. The recipe and charcoal mellowing are the same as Old No. 7; the difference lies in barrel selection and the higher strength.

Tasting Profile

• Nose: Deeper than the black label: toasted oak, vanilla, dark caramel and a hint of orange peel.
• Palate: Fuller and oilier, with toffee, dried apricot, cinnamon and a firm oak backbone.
• Finish: Long, with barrel char, clove and a lingering sweetness.

Serving & Food

Serve at about 18°C in a Glencairn and try it first without water, then with a drop or two. Pair with a dry-aged ribeye, smoked cheddar or a square of 70% dark chocolate.

About the Distillery

Only a handful of people have run the stills at Lynchburg. Jack Daniel held the role himself until 1911, and later long-serving master distillers included Frank Bobo, Jimmy Bedford and Jeff Arnett, with Chris Fletcher in charge since 2020. That continuity is part of why the house style has changed so little.

The distillery is owned by Brown-Forman. Its charcoal-mellowed spirit is filled into new charred oak and stored in multi-storey barrelhouses around Lynchburg, where a barrel's position in the building shapes how it matures.
