This limited Old Rip Van Winkle 23 Year presentation set is identified in the current product record as a 1986-distilled bottle, numbered presentation release with a Glencairn Crystal decanter and two glasses. It is a collector bourbon set where completeness, presentation quality and verified bottle condition matter as much as the liquid itself.
From the Producer
The 23 Year is the oldest and rarest expression in the Van Winkle range, produced under the Old Rip Van Winkle Distillery company and, since 2002, distilled and bottled by the Sazerac Company at the Buffalo Trace Distillery in Frankfort, Kentucky, using the wheated mash bill that has defined Van Winkle whiskey since the family's Stitzel-Weller era. Earlier 23 Year bottlings drew on remaining aged stock from the closed Stitzel-Weller distillery, and Julian Van Winkle III has noted publicly that surviving stock of that age and origin is limited, which is why 23 Year bottles are treated individually and presentation sets such as this one are valued as much for documented completeness as for the whiskey itself.
Tasting Profile
- Nose: Long-aged wheated bourbon character points toward mature oak, deep sweetness and antique bourbon aromatics.
- Palate: Expect old-wood depth, vanilla, toffee and warming spice in the broad Van Winkle 23 Year style, with final assessment depending on the specific bottle condition.
- Finish: Long and mature, with the lingering oak and sweetness associated with extended-age wheated bourbon.
Best For
High-end bourbon collectors, landmark gifting and display-led buying where a complete Van Winkle presentation set carries more value than a standalone bottle.
